Ethereum Rollup deployment platform Caldera completes $15 million Series A funding, led by Founders
According to The Block, Ethereum Rollup deployment platform Caldera has raised $15 million in Series A funding. Caldera is a Web3 infrastructure platform that helps developers launch Ethereum Rollups or scale networks with just one click.
Caldera announced on Wednesday (24th) that Founders Fund, a venture capital firm co founded by Peter Thiel, led the funding round, with participation from Dragonfly, Sequoia Capital, Arkstream Capital, and Lattice. This financing brings Caldera's total financing amount to $25 million.
Caldera is a Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) platform that helps developers quickly launch application specific chains based on technology stacks such as Optimism's OP Stack, ZK Stack from ZKsync, Arbitrarum Nitro, and Polygon CDK. Caldera stated that the company has assisted over 50 projects in launching their own Rollups, including Manta Pacific, Injective, ApeChain, Plume Network, Kinto, RARI Chain, and Zerion's Zero Network. These Rollups have a total locked value (TVL) of over $800 million and have completed over 59 million transactions across 1.7 million independent wallets.
Caldera is capturing two core markets: the main existing projects seeking to launch their own Rollup, and new teams that may lack capital or infrastructure to personally launch their own chains from scratch, "said Joey Krug, partner at Founders Fund, in a statement." This allows developers to focus on their core products, while Caldera handles the underlying infrastructure
Caldera will use the newly raised funds to create a Rollup ecosystem called 'Metalayer', with the goal of integrating dispersed second tier (L2) and third tier (L3) ecosystems. Caldera co-founder and CEO Matt Katz told The Block:
Metalayer will provide an improved developer experience for multiple Rollup dApps, helping Web3 teams leverage shared network effects and enjoy better scalability, efficiency, and security. We expect Metalayer to unleash new potential for innovative dApp, network, and token designs within the Ethereum Rollup ecosystem
When asked if Caldera plans to launch its own token in the future, Katz said, "We currently have no plans regarding tokens
