Telegram launches in app browser and mini app store
The instant messaging app Telegram has introduced several new features in its latest update, including the Telegram browser and Mini App Store.
Telegram Browser
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov stated in an article released on Thursday (1st) that the Telegram browser allows users to switch between websites and information, with built-in features such as search, bookmarks, and multi tab pages.
The Telegram team showcased the usage of various new features in a blog post, stating in their explanation of browser functionality:
Telegram's browser supports decentralized websites (TON Sites) hosted on TON - applicable to all mobile and native desktop applications. This allows us to have nearly 1 billion monthly users immediately access Web3
Mini App Store
Telegram has also launched a Mini App Store in this update, making multiple improvements to promote mini apps on its platform, such as adding app tags in the search function, developer provided app previews, and sharing mini app content in users' stories (such as Instagram's limited time dynamic feature).
Many gaming mini apps on Telegram have become popular this year, such as the Web3 click to earn coin game Catizen, which has earned $16 million through in app purchases. Another click to earn coin game, Hamster Kombat, uses the native token Toncoin ($TON) of the memory blockchain The Open Network (TON). The Hamster Kombat team released a new white paper on Tuesday, detailing the economic model of its native token.
This update to Telegram also includes other new features, such as users being able to send Stars (mini app payment system units) to friends and use weather widgets in Stories.
